Pimples are super common during puberty, almost everyone gets them. Here’s why they happen and how to care for your skin.
Why Pimples Happen
During puberty, your body produces more hormones called androgens. These hormones make your skin produce more oil (sebum). When oil, dead skin cells, and bacteria clog your pores, you get pimples.
Basic Skin Care
Wash your face gently twice a day with a mild cleanser. Don’t scrub hard, it can make pimples worse. Pat your skin dry, don’t rub.
Avoid Touching Your Face
Your hands carry bacteria and oil. Touching your face, picking at pimples, or popping them can spread infection and cause scarring.
Choose the Right Products
Look for products labeled “non-comedogenic”, they won’t clog your pores. If you have persistent acne, talk to a parent about seeing a doctor who can recommend treatments.
Diet and Hydration
Drink plenty of water and eat fruits and vegetables. Some people find that certain foods (like dairy or sugar) affect their skin, but this varies person to person.
Be Patient
Skin care takes time. You won’t see results overnight, but consistent gentle care makes a real difference over weeks.
It’s Normal
Having pimples doesn’t mean you’re doing anything wrong. It’s a normal part of puberty that most people experience.
