Your uterus (also called a womb) is a muscular organ about the size of your fist, located in your lower belly. It’s where a baby would grow if you got pregnant in the future. Every month, your uterus builds up a thick, soft lining of blood and tissue to prepare for a possible pregnancy. When pregnancy doesn’t happen, this lining sheds – and that’s your period! The uterus is incredibly strong and designed to do this cycle over and over.
