How do I feel better about my body?

  • 2 min read

Building a healthier relationship with your changing body takes time, here are practical ways to feel more comfortable.

Focus on Function, Not Appearance
Appreciate what your body does: walks, dances, heals, thinks, creates. Shifting focus from how it looks to what it can do changes your relationship with it.
Limit Comparison
Social media, magazines, and even comparing to peers creates impossible standards. Remember: most images are edited, and everyone’s body is unique.
Find Movement You Enjoy
Physical activity you genuinely like (not punishment exercise) helps you feel strong, capable, and connected to your body. Dance, swim, walk, whatever feels good.
Challenge Negative Thoughts
When you catch yourself thinking harsh things about your body, ask: “Would I say this to a friend?” Treat yourself with the kindness you’d give others.
Surround Yourself With Positive Voices
Unfollow accounts that make you feel bad. Follow people who show diverse bodies, celebrate differences, and promote health over appearance.
Talk to Someone
If body image struggles are constant or affecting your life, talk to a trusted adult, counselor, or doctor. These feelings are valid and help exists.
Remember You’re Still Growing
Your body at 13 or 15 isn’t your final form. Judging yourself harshly during a transition phase isn’t fair to yourself.
Practice Gratitude
Regularly thank your body for what it does: breathing, healing, moving you through the world. Gratitude shifts perspective from criticism to appreciation.
