Why can’t I stop overthinking?

When your daughter cries and you do not know what to say: a guide for dads

Overthinking happens when your brain gets stuck in a loop, replaying situations or worrying about things that might happen. Your mind is trying to solve a problem or protect you, but sometimes it works too hard! Overthinking can make small problems feel huge and keep you up at night. It’s common when you care deeply about something or feel uncertain.

What can help:

What to know

  • Write down your worries to get them out of your head
  • Set a “worry time” limit (like 10 minutes) then move on
  • Distract yourself with music, art, or movement
  • Ask yourself: “Will this matter in a year?”

Your brain is powerful – you can train it to think more calmly!
