Negative comments online can hurt, but you have power over how you respond and protect yourself.
Don’t Engage
Resisting the urge to argue or defend yourself is powerful. Responding often makes things worse and gives the commenter the attention they want.
Delete and Block
You control your space online. Delete hurtful comments and block people who post them. You don’t owe them access to you.
Remember It’s Not About You
People who post mean comments are dealing with their own issues. Their words reflect their character, not your worth.
Talk to Someone You Trust
Don’t suffer in silence. Tell a parent, friend, or trusted adult about what happened. Sharing the burden helps.
Take Screenshots
If comments are bullying or threatening, screenshot them before deleting. This creates a record if you need to report the behavior.
Consider a Social Media Break
If negative comments are affecting your mental health, it’s okay to step away. Your wellbeing matters more than any app.
Don’t Internalize
Read something mean once to understand it, then let it go. Don’t replay it in your mind or let it define you.
Curate Your Feed
Follow accounts that make you feel good. Unfollow or mute content that brings you down. You get to choose what you see.
