Asking for period supplies is a totally normal part of growing up, and your family wants to make sure you have what you need!
Be Direct
The easiest approach: “Can we get some pads?” or “I need period supplies.” Your parent will understand immediately and won’t think twice about it.
Add It to the Shopping List
If asking out loud feels awkward, write it on the family shopping list. You can even text your parent: “Can you add pads to the shopping?” Easy and low-pressure!
Ask When You Need Them
Don’t wait until you’re desperate. If you’re running low, mention it: “We’re almost out of pads, can we get more?” Planning ahead makes everything easier.
Specify What You Want
If you have preferences (thin pads, overnight pads, certain brands), speak up! You could say, “The ones with wings work better for me” or “Can we try a different brand?”
It Gets Easier
The first time might feel awkward, but after that, it becomes as normal as asking for shampoo or toothpaste. Soon it’ll be no big deal at all.
What If They Forget?
Parents are human! If they forget to buy supplies, remind them gently: “Hey, we still need pads.” You can also ask if you can keep some emergency supplies at home and at school.
